Do I Need Breast Augmentation or a Breast Lift?

Are you unhappy with the way your breasts look when you wear a bathing suit, or do you refrain from wearing certain fashions because your bust line gets lost in the fabric and design of certain garments?

If you are experiencing a general disappointment with the appearance of your breasts, it may be time to come in for a procedure to improve the look and feel of your breasts, maybe providing a bit more fullness or just a little more firmness. Quite possibly, you may need a little of both.

Breast Augmentation: Increase Breast Size and Volume

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to make your breasts bigger.  Typically breast augmentation is performed using breast implants, and these may be either silicone or saline.  This surgical procedure is performed under general anesthesia and will require a recovery period of about a week following the surgery, during which your breasts may feel tender and sore, and you may need to take it easy at home getting plenty of rest.

Another technique for performing breast augmentation is by using fat transfer from other areas of your own body, such as your abdomen, hips, or thighs, where you may have a little extra fat to spare.  This procedure is twofold, because it requires first the harvesting of fat from the original source site using liposuction, and then processing and injecting the liquefied fat into the target area, in this case the breasts.

This procedure, while being less invasive than implant surgery, has the drawback that your body may absorb some of the fat and you may need to perform the procedure again.  Fat transfer injections also will not provide the same level of sculpting as implant surgery because the results are less predictable.  With implant surgery, the surgeon has much more control over the outcome.

Breast augmentation will increase the size of your breasts, and may also change their shape, depending on the size and shape of the implants that you select. But, while the procedure will add volume and fullness to your breasts, it will not lift your breasts and won’t make them sit higher up on your chest. So if your breasts are saggy, and what you really need is more support than volume, you’d be wise to consider a breast lift.

Breast Lift: Add Firmness and Support to Sagging Breasts

Perhaps you’re perfectly happy with the size and shape of your breasts, but you just wish they were a bit more firm, a bit more perky, and that they would sit just a little bit higher up on your chest, so you can enjoy wearing the latest bra-less fashions.

A breast lift procedure lifts sagging breasts and trims away excess skin to make the breasts firmer, while shifting them to a higher position on the chest and positioning the nipple so that it projects outwardly instead of pointing at the floor. In some cases, the actual nipple tissue with its nerve endings may need to be repositioned in a breast lift procedure, and this may affect sensitivity in the nipple for several months.

A breast lift is a surgical procedure, and as with breast augmentation surgery, general anesthesia is normally used, as well as incisions, and there will be a recovery period of about one week at home following surgery.

Combining Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift: Bigger AND Firmer!

In many women, particularly as a consequence of the aging process or pregnancy and lactation, the breasts have not only become flaccid and saggy, but they have lost significant volume in response to hormonal changes and weight fluctuations over time. This may cause the breasts to appear elongated or misshapen, with the nipples pointing south and skin that has become thin and flaccid at the top of the breasts.

All of these concerns may be corrected by combining a breast augmentation with breast lift procedure, which produces larger, firmer, shapelier breasts that sit higher up on the chest, with firm nipples that point outwardly instead of downwardly.

A combined breast augmentation and lift procedure combines the best of both treatments to produce extremely rejuvenating results that can make your breasts look fuller, perkier, and more youthful!
