How Does Emsella Work?
The Emsella device delivers focused electromagnetic energy to the pelvic floor muscles, producing supramaximal contractions in these muscles. These contractions are similar to Kegel exercises but far more powerful. The effect is a dramatic tightening of the pelvic floor muscles and a re-training of these muscles, improving intimate health as well as the quality of life in both men and women.
What is Urinary Incontinence?
Chronic urinary incontinence, which may take the form of urge incontinence or overflow incontinence, may affect adult men and women in various ways. For example, some individuals may have trouble “holding it” long enough to get to a bathroom, while others experience leaking urine when coughing, laughing, or performing certain physical movements. For many, adult urinary incontinence can lead to poor quality of life. Patients who suffer from this condition begin to refrain from participating in many social and physical activities to avoid the embarrassment that accompanies this condition.
Chronic incontinence is actually a much more common problem than many people think, affecting anywhere from one-fourth to one-third of all adults at some point in their lives. Many health and lifestyle factors such as aging, childbirth, illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, and vaginal or urinary tract infections may exacerbate urinary incontinence. The condition becomes chronic due to increased laxity and sagging of the pelvic floor muscles, which are the muscles that regulate and control healthy bladder function.
As the pelvic floor muscles weaken over time, it becomes harder and harder for the body to exercise neuromuscular control over the bladder and its function, causing the problem of urinary incontinence to worsen as time passes.
