Non-Surgical Chin Augmentation With Dermal Fillers
Sometimes, a person’s chin does not develop on par with the rest of the facial features, and the chin may appear to be receding, underdeveloped, and in some cases, barely distinguishable at all. In addition, an underdeveloped chin may detract from the balance and proper proportion of your facial features, making features such as the nose and eyes appear larger than they should while detracting from the appearance of the lips and lower face. Luckily, an underdeveloped chin may be easily corrected using dermal filler injections.
Several dermal filler gel formulas on the market are ideal for use as chin filler injections, particularly Hyaluronic Acid (HA)-based fillers such as Juvederm Voluma and Restylane Defyne. Because HA is a naturally occurring nutrient produced by our bodies, there is minimal risk of any adverse reaction with HA-based dermal filler injections. Other chin filler injections contain calcium hydroxylapatite to add firmness, volume, and definition to the chin.
Chin augmentation may be performed using dermal fillers exclusively or by combining dermal filler injections with chin implants. During your complimentary consultation with Dr. Bachilo, she will assess your condition and determine the best dermal filler or combination of dermal fillers to achieve your aesthetic goal successfully.
To reduce the possibility of any discomfort during the procedure, a topical numbing agent can be applied to prepare the treatment area so that you won’t feel the injections. In addition, Dr. Bachilo will typically use a combination of dermal filler injections to increase volume and definition in specific areas of the chin to sculpt the desired results. Dr. Bachilo can help you determine which variety of treatments is best suited to your needs based on your aesthetic goals, skin type, and other factors.
While the procedure is not particularly painful, you may experience temporary swelling, redness, and soreness in the treatment area for a few hours following treatment. You may alleviate any discomfort by applying ice packs to the treatment area and taking over-the-counter pain medication such as Tylenol. You must also avoid rubbing or handling the chin for several days and protect the nose from impact for several weeks.
You may be a good candidate for chin filler injections if you are a healthy adult and your chin is too small for the rest of your face. If your other facial features, such as your nose, eyes, mouth, and/or eyebrows overpower the lower portion of your face, you may benefit from a chin augmentation procedure with chin filler injections.
Dermal filler injections, such as Juvederm, will immediately be visible after treatment, with final results seen within a week to two weeks. While you won’t have to worry about any downtime or recovery after a dermal injection treatment, you will be advised to avoid exposure to extreme sunlight as well as other environmental factors such as extreme weather, cigarette smoke, and other environmental pollutants. Depending on which products are used during your chin filler treatment, results could last as long as two years in the case of HA-based fillers and about 15 months if Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers are used.
How long does chin filler take to settle?
After you receive chin filler injections, it can take several weeks for the filler to settle. However, all swelling should subside within two weeks or less, at which point you will see your final results.
Can you touch your chin after chin filler?
Avoid touching your chin and be sure to keep the skin clean after receiving chin filler injections. In addition, you should avoid applying any pressure to the area for at least 24-48 hours.
Does chin filler make a difference?
Chin filler will create a more defined chin. The results should be noticeable yet natural-looking and well-balanced for your facial features.
Do you swell after chin filler?
Some swelling can be expected after chin filler injections. However, this should last no more than two weeks, with most swelling resolving within about 24-48 hours.
Does chin filler make your face look thinner?
Chin filler can be used to create a slimmer appearance by elongating the face. The result is a more streamlined and defined look.
Which filler is best for chin?
Juvéderm Voluma XC is the only dermal filler currently FDA-approved to augment the chin. However, Juvederm, Restylane, RHA and many other injectables can be used off-label for the chin area. Your injector will recommend the best option for you.
Is chin filler permanent?
Like other injectable filler treatments, chin filler is not permanent. You can expect results to last about 6-12 months, depending on the product you receive.
How much filler do I need for chin?
On average, one to two syringes of filler are used to complete a chin augmentation. This will vary from patient to patient.
Does chin filler soften?
After your chin filler injections, you may feel some lumps or firm areas. As swelling dissipates, this should resolve. This typically occurs over the first two weeks after your injections.
What does chin filler improve?
Chin filler can improve a “weak” or poorly defined chin or soften a cleft chin. It can also be used to create a more balanced and proportionate look overall.
