The Science Behind CoolSculpting®
CoolSculpting® was developed by two scientists at Harvard University Medical School who observed that after some children ate popsicles, dimples appeared in their cheeks. After careful observation, these doctors came to the conclusion that the popsicles were actually freezing fat cells in the cheeks and eliminating them.
The concept of targeting fat cells with controlled cooling, and without damage to surrounding tissue, inspired the Cryolipolysis™ technology behind the CoolSculpting® procedure.
CoolSculpting® has undergone more than 5,500 clinical trials, cited in over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and has become the most widely used non-invasive fat-reduction treatment in the world. Over 5 Million individuals worldwide have improved their appearance by means of CoolSculpting® procedures. You can relax knowing that CoolSculpting® is based on years of solid research, sound science, and successful clinical results.
How CoolSculpting® Works
The CoolSculpting® body sculpting procedure uses a specialized cooling device to safely deliver precise, controlled cooling to targeted fat cells beneath the surface of the skin. These cells are destroyed by the freezing temperature and gradually eliminated naturally by the body’s system of natural excretion, leaving the treatment area slimmer, as well as more sculpted and toned.
The CoolSculpting® procedure is ideal for both women and men to help get rid of stubborn bulges and fatty pockets in problem areas once and for all. This gentle and painless non-invasive treatment smoothes away unflattering bumps such as love handles and bra bulges, and may even help to minimize a double chin, while also tightening and contouring the area.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
It should be noted that the CoolSculpting® procedure is not a weight-loss treatment and is not recommended for individuals who are more than 15-20 pounds over their ideal target weight. Nonetheless, while CoolSculpting® will not help you to lose weight, it will help you to get rid of unwanted fat in specific problem areas, helping you lose inches and achieve a more comfortable and loose fit in your clothing.
The process of CoolSculpting® fat-reduction differs significantly from the process of losing weight because, during the process of weight loss, fat cells in the body shrink in size, but basically the body retains the same fixed number of cells, which typically establish themselves sometime around puberty and the teen years. If you go off your normal weight maintenance program, it’s possible to gain weight again in the same areas, and for those very same fat cells to once again swell to a larger and plumper size, adding inches to your appearance, and increasing the number of pounds you see when you step on the scale.
The CoolSculpting® procedure differs from this process by actually reducing the number of fat cells in treated areas by approximately 20% to 25% in one treatment. These dead cells are then processed by the body and eliminated naturally, so they cannot migrate to another part of the body. CoolSculpting® does not affect neighboring cells in untreated areas. After a CoolSculpting® procedure, if you go off your weight maintenance program, you may gain weight, but you will not see a return of the bulges or bumps that add excess inches in the treated areas, as the number of fat cells in those areas will have been permanently reduced.
The CoolSculpting® Procedure: What to Expect
Our specialist will work with you to design a customized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and cosmetic goals. In many cases, a single treatment session may be sufficient to achieve your aesthetic goals. With five different applicators to choose from, we can design a personalized plan to address multiple areas and treat all of your primary concerns.
Treatment is painless and simple, and you may feel free to read, check in with social media, or relax and doze off during the procedure. Most patients are able to resume normal activities immediately after the CoolSculpting® procedure. While you may begin to see noticeable results around three weeks after your first treatment, the most dramatic results will usually develop over the course of two to three months after treatment.
CoolSculpting® results are long-lasting because fat cells are eliminated permanently after treatment.
Nonetheless, you may still gain weight in untreated areas, so a healthy diet and exercise regimen will be essential to maintaining your results.

Once treated, these cells are then naturally eliminated through the body's normal elimination processes, so the procedure produces completely natural-looking, gradual results that eliminate fat cells permanently from the treatment area.
