When to Consider Arm Lift
Are you bothered and frustrated by the appearance of your “bat wings” in the arms? This extra skin seems to be resistant to any amount of exercise or weight loss that you do. Then arm lift or Brachioplasty is the procedure for you to eliminate this unwanted skin, alleviate any symptoms associated with it and give you contoured, more attractive arms.
An arm lift may be desired by both men and women for a variety of reasons, but most commonly as a result of weight loss and aging. With weight, loose skin does not always shrink back, especially if the lost weight happened fairly quickly and was a significant amount of weight. You may try to hide this extra skin by wearing loose long sleeve clothing, while still experiencing symptoms of chafing that may be limiting your physical activity. Also, as you age, skin loses elasticity and becomes loose and wrinkled. If these sound familiar, Brachioplasty may be the solution you are looking for to show off your new slimmer body and to get back into your normal routine.
What to Expect During Arm Lift Consultation?
Your consultation will involve discussion with Dr. Bachilo of your expectations regarding this procedure. Although Brachioplasty can be a life-changing procedure, one needs to have realistic expectations and understand all of the tradeoffs and risks involved. Dr. Bachilo will explain these to you in detail during your consultation. You should also prepare a list of questions you would like answered regarding the procedure. Dr. Bachilo will review your medical history and examine your arms. She will then be able to make the best recommendations for your specific needs.
Before this elective procedure, you will be asked to stop smoking and will be given a list of medications to avoid. You will receive other instructions on how to best get ready for your operation, and it is imperative that you follow those guidelines. Dr. Bachilo is committed to patient safety and producing the best result possible for you, and this will require your cooperation and participation.
How Is Arm Lift Procedure Done?
An arm lift is performed in an outpatient surgery center or a hospital setting under general anesthesia and usually takes 2 to 3 hours. Dr. Bachilo will make an incision in the armpit and carry it down a variable distance in the inner upper arm. The length of the final scar will depend on the amount of skin that needs to be removed. If you only need a small amount of excess skin removed, the incision may be limited completely in the armpit. However, if there is a large amount of excess skin, the incision and the scar may extend all the way to the elbow. Excess skin will be removed and incisions closed with absorbable sutures. Incisions in the inner arms allow for a well-hidden final scar with your arms at your side.
Liposuction of the arms is often performed in combination with an arm lift. Other cosmetic procedures can also be safely performed for the arm. Speak with Dr. Bachilo about the possibility of combining several procedures. Each patient has unique needs and a custom plan for a combination of procedures will be designed to achieve your desired results.
What Is Arm Lift Recovery Like?
You will be provided with detailed instructions on post-operative care and Dr. Bachilo will follow you closely during your recovery. You may have drains in place which will be removed within the first week after surgery. You will have bandages wrapped around your arms for gentle compression. Please make sure to follow all of your instructions to achieve the best results.
Please avoid any heavy lifting and strenuous activity for 4 to 6 weeks. You should be able to return to work within two weeks or even sooner. All normal activities and exercise can be resumed after 6 weeks.
What Kind of Result Can I Expect From Brachioplasty?
As swelling and bruising resolve, you will be able to see more contoured and slimmer arms. As incisions heal, the scars will mature and continue to improve over a year after surgery. At six weeks after surgery scars may become thicker and red, but will improve and fade over time. Dr. Bachilo will recommend that you protect your scars from the sun to achieve the best final result.
She may also advise on some scar management therapy to help with the scars even further. Your Brachioplasty will have longer-lasting results if you maintain your weight. Our patients are usually very pleased with their results and are excited to fit into more fitting clothing to show off their new arms! Are you ready to take the next step toward slender, beautiful arms?

The Arm Lift procedure extracts pockets of fat, tightens muscle tissue and skin, and creates a toned and define upper arm contour, with increased muscle definition and skin firmness, resulting in an improved and rejuvenated appearance.
No. It is best to lose weight first and maintain a stable weight for a solid year before undergoing any Body Contouring procedure, as future weight fluctuations may negatively affect the results of the procedure.
Arm Lift surgery is designed to restore tone and firmness to the upper arm in both men and women. As long as you are a healthy adult with no contraindication to surgery, you may be a good candidate for this procedure to help you eliminate sagging, flaccid skin from the upper arm and tighten the upper arm contour to create a more youthful and defined appearance.
An Arm Lift may range in price between $4,000 and $7,000 depending on the extent of work required and whether or not you combine the procedure with other procedures in a single session.
An Arm Lift procedure is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia.
The scars from an Arm Lift procedure are very thin hairline scars and they are typically located in the inner part of the arm so that they are concealed when your arms are hanging at your sides. In many cases, Dr. Bachilo limits the scars to only the area of the armpit, further hiding them from view. Over time, if properly cared for, the scars will typically fade and become virtually invisible.
