Feminizing procedures are those that help your face and body appear more feminine, and masculinizing procedures make you look more masculine. After evaluating your natural facial and body structure, Dr. Bachilo will design a personalized plan and recommend the most appropriate procedures to help you achieve the degree of feminization or masculinization that you desire in your face and torso.
While Dr. Bachilo doesn’t perform below the waist transgender surgeries, she will work closely with other specialists to whom she can refer you for compassionate and quality care.
Dr. Bachilo adheres to the WPATH Standards of Care, which requires you to submit a letter of support from a qualified mental health professional recommending FTM (Female to Male) or MTF (Male to Female) top surgery, chest feminization or chest masculinization, and/or transmasculine or transfeminine top surgery. The letter must provide the following information:
- Identification of the patient’s general characteristics
- The type of evaluation and therapy that the mental health professional has provided the patient to-date, and the duration of the provider-patient relationship
- The results of any psychological assessment and any applicable diagnoses or conclusions
- The clinical basis upon which the mental health professional supports the patient’s request for surgery
- A statement and explanation that the patient meets the criteria for feminizing/ masculinizing top surgery
- Confirmation that the mental health provider has obtained informed consent from the patient
- Confirmation that the mental health professional is available to provide post-operative care and agrees to establish and confirm this by phone
In addition to the WPATH Criteria for MTF/FTM top surgery, the patient must:
- Be of majority age, which is 18 years of age in the U.S. Patients under 18 years of age must provide parental consent for top surgery as per the WPATH Standards of Care
- Be on hormone replacement therapy of a minimum of 1 year
- Present a persistent, and well-documented history of gender dysphoria, as well as the capacity to make a fully-informed decision and consent to the procedure
