IPL Technology
Intense pulsed light (IPL), sometimes referred to as flash lamp therapy, is an advanced non-invasive and non-ablative technology used for a variety of cosmetic and therapeutic treatments. IPL differs from laser treatment because it uses a full light spectrum with various wave lengths, while a laser relies on only one specific wavelength of light.
The Venus Versa® with its unique ®SmartPulse™ technology ensures precise and consistent delivery of quick and powerful light flashes that penetrate beneath the surface of the skin to target melanin. The heat delivered by this pulsing light breaks down melanin into miniscule particles. These tiny particles are either eliminated naturally by the body’s lymphatic system, or they may surface as small scabs or flaking on the skin, fading away naturally within a few days.
IPL Technology treats both vascular and pigmented lesions while smoothing and enhancing overall skin tone. The results are smoother skin with reduced discoloration. Several IPL treatments may be required to achieve your aesthetic goals.
BENEFITS
Treatable Conditions
Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses high intensity pulsating light to treat and improve the following skin conditions:
- Age spots
- Facial lines and wrinkles
- Hemangiomas
- Hyperpigmentation
- Melasma
- Moderate Acne and Acne Scars
- Port wine stains
- Rosacea
- Spider Veins
- Stretch marks
- Venous malformations
In addition to treating the above-mentioned conditions, IPL photorejuvenation can also smooth uneven skin texture, tighten large pores, and diminish the appearance of lines, creases, and wrinkles by triggering increased collagen production, which makes skin cells become plumper and firmer, resulting in smoother, healthier skin.
What to Expect from an IPL Facial
To prepare for an IPL Photo Facial you must avoid sun exposure or exposure to tanning lamps, as the treatment targets the brown pigment in your skin. If you are using Retin-A, you may wish to suspend its use for a week or two prior to your treatment session as it may make your skin more sensitive to the IPL treatment.
Once you’re in the treatment room, you will be given some goggles to wear to protect your eyes during the treatment session. A cold gel will be applied to your face. The IPL device will be placed against your skin and you will feel a quick snap, described by most patients as being similar to the snapping of a rubber band against your skin. While many patients find the treatment irritating, the procedure only requires about 20 minutes to treat the entire face, then the gel will be wiped off, and a sunscreen product applied. Your skin will be visibly red and irritated after the procedure, but you may apply makeup right away to conceal the irritation.
IPL differs from laser treatments because it uses multiple wavelengths of light, so it does not provide deep skin resurfacing, nor does it injure the outer layer of skin, meaning that there is no downtime or recovery period after IPL.
Many patients may see dramatic results after only one IPL Photofacial treatment, but others may require three to five sessions, usually spaced about one month apart, with twice a year maintenance visits to preserve optimal results. Glamour Plastic Surgery and Med Spa is located 36 minutes from Katy and 50 minutes from The Woodlands.
