How Is Rhinoplasty Procedure Performed?
Rhinoplasty is done at an outpatient surgery center or hospital under general anesthesia and takes 2 to 3 hours. Procedure may be performed utilizing one of two techniques: an open or a closed approach depending on patients’ needs.
During open rhinoplasty Dr. Bachilo makes an incision on the outside of your nose between the nostrils. This incision is the only incision that may be slightly perceptible on the outside of the nose. The remaining incisions are completely hidden inside your nostrils. Dr. Bachilo will then expose the cartilaginous and bony structural framework of your nose. Modifications to the cartilaginous framework of the nose are done by removing some cartilage, reshaping cartilage, or adding cartilage via grafts. For grafting cartilage may be removed from the septum or from the ear. To narrow or straighten the nose alignment nasal bones may be broken and repositioned. After the cartilaginous and bony structure are reshaped the skin incisions are closed. Sutures on the outside of the nose need to be removed in 5 to 7 days, but the sutures inside the nose are absorbable and do not need removal. Dr. Bachilo may use a splint on the outside of your nose for protection and a splints and/or packing inside your nose. These remain in place until removal by Dr. Bachilo during your follow up visit.
During closed rhinoplasty technique all incisions are made inside the nose. All corrections and changes to bone and cartilage are done through these smaller incisions and therefore this option is reserved for patients who need minimal adjustments.
What to Expect During Nose Job Recovery?
Discomfort after rhinoplasty is minimal and pain is controlled with oral pain medication. Swelling and bruising and is normal and subside within two weeks. However, complete swelling resolution in the nose may take up to four months. Mild bleeding from the nostrils may continue for about a week after surgery. If you experience significant bleeding, make sure to notify your surgeon and seek medial attention immediately.
Most patients return to work within a couple of days after their rhinoplasty. Strenuous exercise can be resumed one month after surgery.
Dos and don’ts after nose surgery:
- Do not drive while taking narcotic pain medications.
- Do not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for 2 weeks.
- Do not smoke for 1 month after surgery.
- Do not use Afrin for more than 3 days after surgery.
- Sleep on 3 to 4 pillows to decrease swelling.
- Use saline to rinse your nose as needed.
- Wear your nasal splint and protect your nose from trauma.
What Results Can I Expect After Nose Job?
Improvement in your nose profile will be seen immediately after splints are removed, but your healing will continue and swelling will continue to decrease over time. Rhinoplasty results will vary by patient. The goal of the operation is to correct your concerns but still make you look like you. You should expect an improved profile and a nose that works well with the rest of your facial features.
Septoplasty
Septoplasty is a specialized nose surgery to specifically correct a deviated septum, which refers to a condition affecting the bone and cartilage between the two nostrils that often causes breathing difficulties. The septoplasty procedure straightens the nasal septum and repositions it in the center of the nose. In many instances, this procedure may be covered by health insurance.

Non-Surgical Nose Job

Non-Invasive Nose Job
The popular “nose job” is one of the most frequently performed types of plastic surgery, and is performed on male and female patients of various ages all over the world. Now, thanks to technological advancements in the cosmetic treatment industry, patients can achieve nose reshaping, or a “nonsurgical nose job” by means of a combination of nonsurgical med spa treatments that synergistically produce dramatic improvements that were formerly obtainable only by means of traditional surgical rhinoplasty.
To fill out a nose that is underdeveloped, non-surgical solutions in the form of nose dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Versa may be sufficient to do the trick. These fillers may be used to widen a nasal bridge that looks too narrow, or nostrils that appear underdeveloped. A combination of fillers applied to the nose as well as to the cheeks may also produce a more harmonious and proportional facial contour.
