What Is Vaginoplasty?
Support, Comfort, and Confidence With Personalized Surgery
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to address vaginal laxity and changes in the vaginal opening or surrounding tissues. Some patients notice these changes after childbirth, aging, weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, or other life events.
Depending on the patient’s anatomy and goals, vaginoplasty may involve tightening the vaginal canal, repairing separated pelvic floor or vaginal wall muscles, and reducing excess tissue. The goal is to create a more supported, comfortable, and natural-feeling result while preserving normal anatomy.
Because this is a highly personal procedure, treatment should always be customized. During your consultation, Dr. Olga Bachilo will review your concerns, medical history, anatomy, and future pregnancy plans to determine whether vaginoplasty or a nonsurgical option may be appropriate.

Reasons to Consider Vaginoplasty
Laxity of vaginal wall muscles may occur due to excessive stretching during childbirth or may be a result of sexual trauma, genetics, or simply the aging process. In many women, vaginal laxity causes embarrassment and/or sexual dissatisfaction. While Kegel exercises may help strengthen vaginal muscles in some patients, this approach may not be sufficient to produce the desired tightness and rejuvenation to restore normal and healthy sexual function and sensitivity.
The decision to undergo vaginal rejuvenation is highly personal. Most women seek vaginal rejuvenation to treat the following conditions:
- Laxity of vaginal walls after childbirth. Many women experience laxity of the vaginal wall muscles and decreased sexual sensitivity due to giving birth vaginally, which may affect their intimate relationships.
- A vaginal canal that is too wide. As women age, the muscles of the vaginal wall may become naturally weak and flaccid as a consequence of hormonal fluctuations, sexual activity, and genetics. This vaginal laxity may decrease sexual pleasure for both partners.
- Damage to self-esteem and self-confidence. Many women are embarrassed by vaginal wall laxity and an aged and flaccid appearance in the genitalia. Vaginoplasty not only improves their sexual sensitivity and pleasure but also uplifts their self-confidence by knowing that increased vaginal tightness provides increased pleasure for their sexual partner.
When to Consider Vaginoplasty
If you’re thinking about vaginoplasty, you should be in good health and not pregnant. Following childbirth, a waiting period of about one year is recommended before considering this procedure to allow your muscles to tighten naturally during that period while also allowing your body to recover from childbirth fully. Vaginoplasty is normally not recommended for women who desire to become pregnant again in the future, as surgery results may be affected by childbirth.
Whatever your reasons for considering vaginoplasty, you can trust Dr. Bachilo to provide skilled and compassionate care as you undergo this delicate and sensitive procedure. Dr. Bachilo is skilled and specialized in these delicate procedures and performs them regularly.
Sex After Vaginoplasty
Dr. Bachilo typically recommends taking about one week to rest and recover after vaginoplasty. Sexual intercourse should be avoided for approximately six weeks, or until you have been cleared during your follow-up visit, to allow the tissues to heal properly.
Following your post-operative instructions and giving your body adequate time to recover can help support a comfortable healing process and the best possible outcome.
